Resumo: Environmental management is a functional aspect of running an activity, which develops and implements environmental policies and strategies. The environmental management includes studies, planning, control and environmental monitoring. Environmental management back to the formulation of principles and guidelines for structuring management systems and decision-making, aiming to promote the use, control, protection and environmental conservation to achieve the goals of sustainable development . The vegetated areas around the rivers are called riparian forests, forests or riparian galleries and are critical to protection of water resources, ecological integrity in lowland areas, and act as ecological corridor for fauna and flora. The GIS and its technologies are of great use for the activity niches that involve the environment in general. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been increasingly applied in environmental projects, being a facilitator in decision making. One of the tools for environmental management is the GIS along with GPS, which today is very important your job studies, environmental control and monitoring. In the same way the GIS, this tool is essential to support the decision to be made on environmental and social issues. Given this provision, this research and data collection, aimed at the application of GIS techniques, especially relating to the information obtained by use of Landsat images and data from a global positioning system - GPS, to identify the areas of riparian vegetation present surrounding the entire length of the riverbed November XV, located in XV Line locality November, inside the municipality of Lindóia do Sul / SC. To achieve the proposed objective data were collected as georeferencing points with GPS, benchmarking measures and photographic record of the vegetable type of constant riparian forest of River bed in question. The final evaluation of the study was performed by generating thematic maps containing the delimitation of the riverbed and the presence of riparian vegetation and their respective measures in the vicinity of it. This information made it possible to conclude that much of the riparian vegetation found in the river bed is at odds with environmental legislation Federal Law 12651 of 25 May 2012 referred to in the New Brazilian Forest Code.
