With the growing increase in solid waste generation, and the biggest concern regarding the preservation of natural resources, thus increasing the attempts of new policies aimed at collection and disposal of waste generated by the population. Thus, this study aimed to study the efficiency of the Selective Collection Program Solid Waste in the Municipality of Joaçaba (SC), one of the best cities in the developing country indices. It occurred collecting data through interviews with those responsible for the progress of the selective collection program of the municipality, both the government and the company responsible for the transportation and disposal of waste collected. In these interviews we sought to understand the process of collection and disposal as well as the processing of collected materials. The selective collection program covers much of the urban area of the municipality studied. The separation in homes is made only from organic and recyclable. The collection occurs at scheduled days and responsibility of a private company to collect and transport the waste to the recycling cooperatives. In cooperative materials are separated and traded with processing companies. But even with the collection, many collectors collecting materials remain on the streets, especially in the central trade. This is a factor that reduces the amount of materials collected by the contractor of the city. The population is slowly developing awareness of the importance of waste separation in homes and adhering to the program developed by the city in partnership with the private sector. |
