The Brazilian seaside cities mostly dump sewage after some treatment at sea through the underwater outfall. The use of these underwater outfall, when devoid appropriate treatment system before dump, can create various harmful effects to the environment, affecting not only the local marine environment, but also extending to the socioeconomic aspects of the region. Salvador has two underwater outfalls, the most recent is the Ocean Disposal System (ODS) of Jaguaribe, this studyt questions the quality of seawater from the implementation / inclusion of ODS. The analysis began with the reports of the physicochemical parameters of the effluent at the outlet of the Preconditioning Station starting from February 2014 until February 2015. In this study, it was found that the ODS Jaguaribe shows only preliminary treatment before its dump, going to the ocean with all the organic load and nutrients present in the sewage. The collected data were compared with the CONAMA Resolutions n° 357 of 2005 and n° 430 of 2011. The parameters analyzed were: BOD, COD, thermotolerant coliform, suspended solids, ammonia nitrogen and mercury, among these stood the BOD that showed values higher than the maximum permitted by CONAMA 430 in the months of drought, and ammonia nitrogen which showed peaks when compared to the maximum allowed to be dump. Was conclude that the adoption of the underwater outfall is a viable alternative to the seaside cities, but the environmental monitoring should be rigid, one suggestion is the creation of specific legislation for the projects and to establish which pre-treatment should be adopted and which compounds present in the sewage must be removed before the dump in order to reduce the impacts. |
