Resumo: This paper focused on the urban drainage system and its related problems, such as obstructions in the system and flood areas, which seriously affect the development of cities and the mobility of the inhabitants. The area in this case is located on Avenida Juscelino Kubitscheck, between Vila Pérola and Vila Portes districts in the city of Foz do Iguaçu – PR. This region presents significant land subdivision, as well as empty urban areas and even permanent preservation regions. One could observe that the drainage system currently in place makes the water drain away as quickly as possible, which simply transfers the problem to another area, that is, from a higher area to a lower one, from upstream to downstream, causing flood areas downstream, depending on the rainfall intensity, namely Av. Juscelino Kubitschek in this case. The methodology was through exploratory research, for intensive and extensive direct observation and search existing data on relevant factors as the issue of urban drainage along the Work of Departments and Environment of the city of Foz do Iguaçu, and bibliographic search. A few possible solutions to this problem of the current drainage system have been suggested, like the construction of detention reservoirs, which decrease the maximum drain time, thus allowing the system to adequately drain the rainwaters that reach the galleries. The city must have a multidisciplinary team so as to come up with strategies of an efficient drainage system and find solutions to the existing problems as well.
