This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of environmental education in teaching - learning process of dealing with the environmental issue of Schools of the Municipal Chapeco - SC. The data required for the development of the research were collected through interviews with semi-structured questions. The study was conducted with 52 students of two classes of the 4th year of elementary school and 10 teachers. The results showed that these schools environmental education is carried out through various actions such as projects, lectures and educational tours. However, the challenges are quite significant, considering that there is a lack of general commitment for is thematic.
