Resumo: This scientific research presents a case study on reuse of produced water, aiming to show the methods used by the oil industry as a solution to the destination processes and reuse of produced water or formation water. This wastewater is a byproduct produced abundantly, from the wells onshore oil, used for reinjection wells, so as to not be discarded into the environment, which would cause irreversible damage to the environment in its various classifications. The water produced is a highly degraded product, at its high level of toxicity of the constituents, salinity, organic compounds and high amounts of chemicals either from its own composition (sulfur, barium, calcium, etc.) And / or added during the process of oil extraction (corrosion and scale inhibitors, demulsifiers, polyelectrolytes, and others). This work brings as a result of the study , the knowledge of an alternative that minimizes the pollution caused by the oil industry as well as the increase in oil production at low cost and the correct disposal of produced water to not pollute . In addition to this, the paper raises the need to develop this industrial segment promoting the preservation of the environment and the conscious use of natural resources, aiming at extending its useful life and respect for all that lives.
