Resumo: Because of its excellent thermodynamic properties and because it does not harm the ozone layer, ammonia is the most widely used refrigerant in large industrial refrigeration systems worldwide. These systems are used both for ambient air conditioning, as well as for food and beverage preservation as well as processes. Despite all the benefits, ammonia can be considered a toxic and unhealthy substance if the concentration limits stipulated by regulatory agencies are not respected. The early detection of ammonia leaks, even in small concentrations, is the best way to prevent accidents, making it necessary to deploy mechanisms to monitor the gas in the environment.
