Resumo: The resulting professional stress in the work environment can lead the employee to develop Burnout syndrome. It is characterized by a mental and emotional exhaustion resulting from stress arising from the poor conditions of the professional environment. The worker coexists with conflicts in the execution of the tasks, the fear of the loss of the job and the deficiency in the interpersonal relations. The employee becomes coerced and unable to perform his duties due to the high collection from his superiors, and the pressure exerted by co-workers. Exposure to these factors is synonymous with health risk, as it may lead to depression, anxiety, alcoholism and in more severe cases, suicide. The objective of this work was to perform a literature review on Burnout Syndrome, showing its causes and consequences, and what could be done to prevent the syndrome from occurring.
