Resumo: Teachers are professionals who are at great risk of developing vocal disorders, and the noises that permeate during classes provide a higher rate of these disorders. This research aims to assess the noise levels to which elementary school teachers from 20 municipal schools in Ponta Grossa, PR, are exposed while teaching, to apply a questionnaire to them, to assess if the levels are in accordance with NBR 10152/1987 and find measures that reduce noise and preserve the health of the teacher. Were performed 35 measurements with digital dosimeters DOS-1000 and were answered 43 questionnaires. The average noise levels for all schools were 75,6 dB and the answers, both positive and negative in the questionnaires. The high levels found exceeded that prescribed by this standard, corroborating some of the questionnaire responses, also found possible associations between noise levels found, questions answered and vocal disorders. It is irrefutable the need for the teachers' awareness on the part of the school as to the importance of vocal training practices aimed at the health of the teacher and the quality of teaching, as well as the application of measures to reduce noise according to the reality of each school.
