Resumo: The need to develop effective and economically viable and efficient treatment methods for removing pollutants from water is constant, as well as the valorization of residues with added potential, such as chicken eggshells, applied as an alternative source of calcium in different areas of knowledge. In this study, this residue has been used for the synthesis of calcium titanate, and its subsequent application in heterogeneous photocatalysis, over the triclosan compound, already found in surface water, aquatic organisms, sediments, and even in breast milk. The egg shells were collected from the Restaurant of the Federal Technological University of Paraná, Câmpus Apucarana, and they were cleaned and crushed for later synthesis of CaTiO3 via solid state reaction through heat treatment. The synthesized materials were characterized using XRD and SEM techniques, in order to observe the developed morphological characteristics. Heterogeneous photocatalysis tests were carried out with the synthesized materials in order to degrade the pollutant triclosan in two photochemical reactors. The results were verified by reading on a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and GCMS. The data demonstrated excellent results on pollutant photodegradation, presenting 94.13% of degradation with 120 minutes of reaction. It is concluded that the residue is extremely viable to be used as an alternative source of calcium for the synthesis of CaTiO3 and later applied in the photodegradation of triclosan.
