Resumo: This article aims to identify how the figure of former president Getúlio Vargas appears in literary works and, more specifically, in the fictional narratives in which his career is a discursive pole. The theoretical basis of the research is centered on the writings of Roger Chartier and Hayden White, as well as the characterization of the historical novel. With this, we seek to locate the narrative supports that give life to the analyzed works and to determine the ways in which they can be interpreted. The research took place through the search in an electronic bookstore about works that dealt with the gaucho politician. The results showed that Getúlio Vargas has its name linked to many books, from the most varied genres, being the History books the most. However, when the genre is that of the historical novel, its image is usually associated with its last days of life.
