Resumo: In healthcare facilities, equipment designed for intracardiac procedures or applications that promote life sustaining require electrical installations that are different from ones. In these environments, the ABNT NBR 13534:2008 standard determines the adoption of an electrical system called medical IT system. This system is characterized by the use of an isolation transformer, an insulation monitoring device (IMD) and its power conductors do not have the electrical voltage referenced to the equipment mass. This will prevent electric shock, sparking and sudden disruption of the equipment protection. This paper aims to study and design an IMD for a medical IT system, which must meet the requirements imposed by the cited standard. Among all requirements, the main ones are insulation resistance monitoring and failures signaling. The prototype of the project was elaborated taking into account the cost of production, so that it is an economically viable solution.
