The cosmetic knowledge is transmitted from generation to generation and even in face of the popularity embedded in the use of lip cosmetics, studies natural cosmetics are few. Heavy metals like mead, cadmium, chrome and arsenic, besides synthetic molecules, such as parabens, are used as pigments in lipsticks, causing serious effects on the user’s health due to the exposition and contamination to those compounds. This course conclusion paper aims the proposition of an alternative to substitute synthetic pigments present in lip cosmetics by the incorporation of a natural pigment extracted from the Jambolan (Syzygium cumini (l.) skeels) on the production of lipsticks free from heavy metals and parabens. To such end, the extraction of the pigment through decantation and fractioned distillation was carried on, as well as the elaboration of the cosmetic following formulations based in previous studies. The results of most of the samples were satisfactory, thus demonstrating the viability of this pigment. However, the durability and usable life of the product posterior studies to investigate the use of conservative agents in the formulation of such cosmetics.
