Resumo: For the correct design of the hot water systems in which the heaters of the serpentine type are responsible for heating the water, it is necessary to consider the load losses hat occur in these devices. The load losses occur in the passage of the fluid through the serpentine, copper tubing that is encased in the combustion chamber of the heater. There are no specific definitive formulas for this type of load loss, so the engineering practice uses the designer's knowledge to know this value. In this context, the objective of this work was to measure experimentally the load loss that occurs in the passage heaters, to make the serpentine type, and also to compare with the values collected with the values obtained through the Darcy-Weisbach and Fair -Whipple - Hsiao equations. Tests must be made with two heaters, in order to evaluate the amount of pressure loss in relation to the water flow variation that passed through the serpetina. It was confirmed that the higher the flow through the heater, the greater the loss of load. Analyzing the results of the experimental load loss, compared to the loss of charge resulting from the Darcy-Weisbach and Fair-Whipple-Hsiao formulas, a large difference was detected between these values.
