Secondary consolidation is the phenomenon by which the deformations that occur over time, under constant vertical effective stress, are attributed to the dissipation of the adsorbed water. The understanding and verification of such phenomena is essential to understand the behavior of saturated soil, it is added to this, that secondary consolidation can generate significant post – constructive strains. Through this work, it was possible to establish a relationship between secondary consolidation, secondary expansion and OCR for the soil sample collected at the UTFPR –TD campus, following the mechanism proposed by the Rheology Group of COPPE. To establish this relationship, firstly were collected samples deformed and undisturbed and characterization tests were made. After this step, secondary consolidation tests were performed, where three different OCR’s (1.05; 1.2 and 7.5) were generated. The proposed relationship was established through the analysis of the consolidation and compression curves. In this way, it was possible to estimate that the end of secondary consolidation line is close to an 1.2 OCR. In addition, the effect of temperature on secondary consolidation was observed. Thus, it was found that the higher the temperature, the higher the volumetric strain rate. |
