Resumo: The use of cutting fluid is extremely important in machining, as they reduce the friction between tool / workpiece and tool / chip, thereby reducing the temperature of the workpiece and tool, improving machinability and the final quality of the workpiece. The aim of this work was to study the influence of the cutting fluid on the roughness in the polymer machining process. The tests consisted of milling two different specimens, acrylic and expanded PVC. The cutting parameters analyzed were cutting speeds, feed rate and fluid addition in different concentrations. According to the statistical analysis, there was an interaction effect between the cutting speeds and the materials on the roughness values, in addition to the individual effects of the materials and, mainly, of the fluid conditions. As for the analysis of the chips, it was noted that there was a decrease in their size as the concentration increased. The consumption of electric current indicated that with the addition of the cutting fluid, there was a decrease in friction between tool / part, indicated by the decrease in current.
