Resumo: Football in its primordium was an extremely individualistic game, essentially offensive, instinctive and chaotic from the point of view of the game that is played today. In their initial tactical formation, the teams used a goalkeeper, a quarterback, a half and eight attackers, believed in the idea that the best defense was the attack. As all teams used this tactical system, a team that changed that tactical scheme would prevail over the other team. Which made him think that it was better to attack than to defend himself. Football evolved over time, as the game developed, game systems sought to better explore their players through their positioning in the field, based on this concept arose the need to create tools that can help in understanding and understanding the tactical position of the opponent. In the present work, the basic tactical principles that are a way to direct the actions of the players and the teams in the defensive phases of the game will be approached in order to verify the incidence of the tactical defensive actions during the game and if there is relevance of these actions in the results of the games. In the World Cup – Russia 2018, the Brazilian Football Selection spent an average of 30.76 minutes defending itself, of the tactical principles analyzed in the study, the balance actions were the most accomplished, the defensive coverage actions were the least performed in the matches. The highest averages of tactical defensive tactics were found in situations where the Brazilian team did not score in the match and in the situations in which it won the game, while the highest averages of unrealized defensive actions and defensive actions not performed per minute were found in the situations in which the Brazilian Team suffered goal in the game and in the situation in which it tied the game. Through the visualization of the matches and analysis by PADTI, it was possible to quantify the tactical defensive actions and to make a description between the results of each game during the competition. These results of the study call for help in understanding what happens tactically during the game, supporting researchers, coaches and athletes to understand the importance of tactical application in the dynamics of game results.
