Resumo: According to the report of the International Energy Agency the global energy demand due to air conditioners is expected to triple by 2050. Currently about 20% of the energy consumed in buildings worldwide are destined to power the HVAC systems. This represents approximately 10% of all global electricity consumed. Aiming at raising alternatives to increase the energy efficiency of UTFPR - Pato Branco air conditioning systems and to identify which aspects interfere in this efficiency increase, this study had as a study methodology a literature review in order to understand and evaluate studies already developed which can serve as a base material for possible energy efficiency projects in the campus. It was identified that technological, physical and behavioral parameters directly interfere in the consumption of electric energy. However, not all methods of reducing the energy consumption of the air conditioners identified are applicable on the campus because they involve additional costs or depend on major modifications in the infrastructure.
