This paper studies the design of mechanically stabilized earth walls using materials purchased in the local commerce. The materials selected to build the reinforced landfill were Kraft paper and sand. These materials were characterized by laboratory tests and consultations to the technical literature were carried out hence a possible design of the reinforced landfill was executed. Two designs were carried out: one with the Kraft paper mobilized along its manufacturing direction and another with the mobilization of its resistance occurring in the perpendicular direction to the manufacturing direction. The obtained results with the design suggest an economy of approximately 30 % of Kraft paper when it is mobilized along its manufacturing direction. |
