In Brazil most of the buildings are constructed using reinforced concrete for the structure and ceramic bricks for sealing, so much so that this type of construction is called conventional construction. However container constructions have been gaining space in the civil construction, as it is an alternative to conventional construction method, some problems occur in buildings that do not have detailed design and technical accompaniment during their installation. The main changes to be made in buildings using containers are related to thermal comfort and, even with the knowledge that steel is a good thermal conductor, professionals do not spend time planning thermal insulation because they believe that air conditioning solves the problem. This final paper shows that a good planning and applicability of thermal insulation can decrease the use of continuous air conditioning, expending less electricity. Based on this assumption, a case study was carried out using as a study object a finished container building, quantifying the thermal loads and analyzing the solutions adopted to reduce them. The thermal loads also aided in calculating the cooling capacity in BTUs for the installation of air conditioning. The green roof used to mitigate the problem proved to be very significant in reducing the solar thermal loads, which additionally increased the useful life of the structure reducing the stress caused by bad weather, besides contributing in the combat to the effects of the urban heat island. |
