Resumo: The purpose of this article is to analyze innovation strategies in the context of Academic Libraries (ALs). The objectives were to investigate whether ALs innovate, identify which factors influence innovation in these environments, and verify how librarians and managers include digital natives in the process of library innovation. This articleis classified as theoretical and basedonbibliographicresearch. The results show that there is a need for innovation within the ALs. However, because they are university libraries, which are usually linked to a larger body, the difficulties in the context of the Institution as a whole, must betakeninto account. Understand the major flawsthatalienate the academic community digital natives - from their physical environment. This slice of users is characterized by having a contemporary profile, by communicating basically in a virtual way and by seeking information online in the internet and in digital format, but at the same time, digital natives seek alternative and collaborative environments to perform academic activities in physical spaces. In this context, the study considers that with the digital age, together with the new forms of access to information of digital natives, it becomes indispensable that libraries establish processes of innovation to meet the needs of digital natives, who look at these units not only as a place of access to information, but also as an environment that can be used as a cultural, leisure and entertainment space.
