To carry out the research, a legal corpus was usedthat includes texts by sevenauthors published between 1975 and 2019. In other words, this research includesthe first use of the term and its recent uses, thus highlighting the relevance of the historical and social context in the study of lawfare. The corpus was mapped, and data on lawfare were organized so that, in the light of Bakhtinian thinking, they could be analyzed. Therefore, the concepts of meaning and theme linked to the idea of sign, utterance and genre of discourse proposed by the Circle served as theoretical basis for this research.It was observed that the lawfare, in containing the accumulation of themes given to the words war and law / law, shows a microcosm of ideological disputes. Which can and continues to be used as a weapon / instrument to harm those who criticize state authorities. A state is able to use lawfare to obtain advantages in the military or political field. The word lawfare is an arena for confrontation between different valuative horizons. Being an ideological sign, the enunciation of lawfare is never neutral. This fact suggests the variety of themes in dispute and the instability of their meaning. Lawfare being a recent neologism and a sign with relatively unstable significance, there is an intense thematic struggle for the conceptualization of the word. O objetivo desta pesquisa é esclarecer o propósito comunicativo do uso da palavra lawfare pelos autores da área jurídica.Assim sendo, faz parte do objetivo deste trabalho responder quais os contextos que o termo lawfare evoca, como ele é construído e reconstruído no discurso jurídicodos autores para assim compreender qual seria a significação e o tema do signo lawfare, com base na sua origem, história e instrumentalização passada e contemporânea.Para realizar a pesquisa, fez se uso de um corpus jurídico que conta com dez textos publicados entre 1975e 2019, ou seja, tem se desde o primeiro uso do termo até alguns usos de data recente,realçando assim a relevância do contexto histórico e social no estudo do lawfare. O corpus foi mapeado, e os dados sobre o lawfare foram organizados para que, à luz do pensamento bakhtiniano, fossem analisados de forma dialógica. Para tanto,serviram de suporte para a pesquisa os conceitos de significação e tema vinculados à ideia de signo, enunciado e gênero do discurso propostas pelo Círculo. Observou-se que o lawfare, ao comportar em si o acumulado de temas dados às palavras guerra e lei/direito, mostra-se um microcosmo das disputas ideológicas. Que pode e continua a ser utilizado como uma arma/instrumento para prejudicar aqueles que criticam as autoridades estatais. Um Estado é capaz de utilizar-se do lawfare para obter vantagens no campo militar ou político. A palavra lawfare é arena de confronto entre horizontes valorativos distintos. Sendo signo ideológico, a enunciação de lawfare nunca é neutra. Tal fato sugere a variedade de temas existentes em embate e a instabilidade de seu significado.
