The present work aims to propose a reading of chronicles written in 1968, seeking to point out how the concepts of conservative and reactionary can be put in check by reading Nelson Rodrigues’s chronicles, pointing out how the author positions himself in one of the most critical political moments in history of Brazil. The development of this work was based on studies of the critics from Zuenir Ventura (1988), Elio Gaspari (2002), Alexandre Pianelli Godoy (2012), Luiz Felipe Pondé (2013), Alfonso Berardinelli (2016), among others. Throughout the analysis it was possible to notice that Nelson Rodrigues presents a huge complexity in his productions and positions, mainly for having an enigmatic personality, and who can also be considered someone far above ideologies and polarizations, because of the way he builds his critiques within his texts. The investigation points to a position of Nelson Rodrigues as a conservative with libertarian strands, because within his political position the author puts himself controversially in relation to the ideologies called right and left. The epithet of reactionary would come then from a reaction to everything that Nelson Rodrigues was opposed to, and not from an ultra-rightist position, which would favor a particular configuration of the State and the institutions linked to its regime. |
