Resumo: The study of new materials is something important for human development, because with these materials it is possible to combine properties that guarantee more efficient, economical and more ecologically correct products and processes. Inevitably, new materials will be used in smaller niches compared to the materials already known, which will have wide applicability. However, when known materials are replaced with new materials, the production process needs to adapt to the new conditions of these materials. In manufacturing processes, the process parameters change significantly. For example, in machining processes, changing the material of the part can change the material and shape of the tool, the type and application of the cutting fluid and consequently the cutting parameters. Considering these changes, the present work aimed to evaluate whether commercial carbide inserts offer good cutting conditions when used in milling commercial Strenx® 700 steel, which is a high-strength, lowalloy material, applied in specific sectors, as in trucks and agricultural equipment. The evaluation had as answers the roughness and the wear of the tool. In this way, a machining center was used with the following cutting conditions: cutting depth of 0.5 mm, feed per tooth 0.10 mm/rot, cutting speed 230 m/min and conditions with and without cutting fluid. In the cutting fluid condition, a system with a minimum amount of fluid was used. By using the cutting parameters recommended by the insert manufacturer, the study showed that Strenx® 700 steel is possible to be machined with coated carbide insert and in the condition with cutting fluid, using the technique of minimum amount of fluid, both wear and medium roughness had lower values.
