The aim of this work is to analyze the cartoons and comic strips of the Curitiba journalist Alceu Chichôrro, between 1926 and 1945. The cut for the analyzes focus on three themes: representations of masculinities and femininities, notions of technology and World War II. The cartoons and comic strips were obtained from the electronic collection of the National Newspaper Archive (Hemeroteca). In the analyzes, the idea of historical-visual narratives was considered as the basis for the development of the theory in each theme. We observed the practice of pejorative and asymmetric representations of women and black people; the relativization of technology, from hero to villain; and satire and stereotype used as mechanisms to dethrone politicians. In all the cartoons and comic strips analyzed Alceu Chichôrro translated complex news into an accessible and popular language, a subjective reshaping of history through graphic memory. |
