Data collection consisted of two instruments: 1) Visual Cognitive Processing Test on the tracker; 2) Post-collection questionnaire. This research had as specific objectives: to show the origin of curse words and their meaning; present theories of Pragmatics that explain the use of the them; describe the research that presents the interface between Eye Movements and Linguistics; collect eye movement data while reading sentences in which the target words are found in two figurative (curse words) and literal (dictionary sense) contexts; apply a post-collection questionnaire; analyze eye movements while reading the curse words; analyze the target words under the bias of Relevance Theory; compare the result of the cognitive processing of the Relevance Theory with that of the Eye movements and analyze the responses of the usability questionnaire through the RT. The analyzes were composed of heat maps, graphs on the average percentage duration of fixations and analysis of the sentences through the deductive mechanisms Modus Ponens. Through the development of this research, it was observed that the procedures of human interpretation in relation to the expletive attest that the eye movements provide real data of the cognitive processing while the deductive mechanisms help in the explanation of the inferential processes. Therefore, the interpretation depends on the cognitive context restricted by the search for relevance, in which the cognitive effect tends to overcome the cognitive effort. It was obtained in the analysis results that curse words can be used as part of a communicative strategy to facilitate human interaction, given that curse words in the figurative sense are easy to be interpreted. Based on all the research and the results achieved, a pedagogical proposal for High School and Higher Education was created, entitled “The educated curse word”, composed of strategies and tools on how to work on the curse words in the school life routine. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo principal analisar o processamento cognitivo de algumas palavras-alvos no sentido literal e figurado com base na perspectiva da Teoria da Relevância e dos Movimentos Oculares. A amostra estudada compôs-se de 30 participantes sendo alunos e funcionários da Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR) de Ponta Grossa. A coleta de dados está composta por dois instrumentos: 1) Teste de Processamento Cognitivo Visual no rastreador; 2) Questionário pós-coleta com a finalidade de verificar a usabilidade do palavrão. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivos específicos: mostrar a origem dos palavrões e o seu significado; apresentar teorias da Pragmática que explicam o uso do palavrão; descrever pesquisas que apresentam a interface entre Movimentos Oculares e Linguística; coletar dados de movimentos oculares durante a leitura de sentenças em que se encontram as palavras-alvo em dois contextos figurado (palavrão) e o literal (sentido dicionarizado); aplicar um questionário pós-coleta; analisar os movimentos oculares durante a leitura das palavras-alvo; fazer análise das palavras-alvo sob o viés da Teoria da Relevância; comparar o resultado do processamento cognitivo da TR com a o Movimentos oculares e analisar as respostas do questionário de usabilidade por meio da TR. As análises foram compostas por mapas de calor, gráficos sobre a duração percentual média das fixações e análise das sentenças através dos mecanismos dedutivos Modus Ponens. Por meio do desenvolvimento desta pesquisa, observou-se que os procedimentos de interpretação humana com relação ao palavrão atestam que os movimentos oculares fornecem dados reais do processamento cognitivo enquanto que os mecanismos dedutivos auxiliam na explicação dos processos inferenciais. Assim, a interpretação depende do contexto cognitivo restringido pela busca por relevância, no qual o efeito cognitivo tende a menor que o esforço cognitivo. Obteve-se no resultado das análises que o palavrão pode ser utilizado como parte de uma estratégia comunicativa para facilitar a interação humana, haja vista que o palavrão no sentido figurado é fácil de ser interpretado.
