Resumo: The glossy privet (Ligustrum lucidum W. T. Aiton) is an exotic invasive species of the mixed tropical rainforest, with the ability to alter natural ecosystems due to its high potential for invasion. The objective was to identify the germination potential of glossy privet seeds, as well as the biochemical composition of the fruits, with and without storage. Fresh and dry mass of fruits, number of fruit-1 seeds, germination potential, concentration of proteins and total sugars of fruits present in the canopy and their seeds and of fruits that were detached from the treetop and their seeds were evaluated. The analyses were carried out soon after collection and after 45 days of cold storage. Seeds collected from fruits that were detached from the canopy without storage showed fewer viable seeds. Seeds collected from fruits present in the crown without storage presented higher number of viable seeds. No statistical difference in protein concentration was observed between fruit detached from the crown and fruit present in the tree crown with and without storage. Fruits detached from the canopy had a higher concentration of total sugars in relation to fruit present in the canopy.
