Resumo: The Enem essay is a textual genre frequently studied in schools and preparatory courses, given that it is an important part of a national exam and its score impacts the participant’s final grade. It is a mixed type of text, dissertative-argumentative text, which has its own characteristics, such as the intervention proposal. Despite being a genre without much circulation, occurring only once a year, its importance in the sphere in which it is found is great. Thus, it is essential to know the structure of this genre, só that the production is done in an assertive way. Based on this scenario and considering Jean Michel-Adam’s theory on textual sequences and their importance in the construction of the text at the mesotextual level, a question was based on this study: from the prototype suggested by Adam, we question how these sequences are they structured within the text, that is, what order does this preformatted structure appear? That said, this research aims to analyze the materialization of the argumentative sequence in the productions of this genre, seeking to identify how they are presented, that is, how they are structured throughout the text, in order to understand their compositional and linguistic aspects (macropropositions and propositions), strictly at the textual level of analysis theorized by Adam (2019). For this, Adam’s studies (2019) on textual sequences will be used, especially the argumentative one, because it is assumed that this genre has this class of sequences given its type of text. This research has an investigative basis, being a quantitative-quali research, carried out through bibliographical study and text analysis, focusing on the field of textual linguistics. Essays with grade 1000 and essays with lower grades (Digitus newsroom bank) were analyzed, providing the basis for a comparison between the data found. The results obtained indicated that the argumentative sequence is present in the two classes of essays analyzed, however, in the essays with a good grade, there are clearer, well-defined argumentative sequences that meet both Adam’s prototype and the exam’s correction requirements. On the other hand, in other newsrooms, the correction criteria were not satisfactorily met and there was greater difficulty in defining the macro propositions, especially due to the lack of linguistic elements of cohesion and little detailing of information, which makes the reader responsible for making the necessary relations to the understanding of the text, a situation that flattens the final note of the essay.
