Resumo: This work aimed at raising credit by SMEs in financial institutions in the municipality of Pato Branco, State of Paraná, with the general objective of analyzing the panorama of small companies in raising credit in the municipality of Pato Branco. To achieve this objective we used bibliographic research, survey, qualitative research. Data were collected through questionnaires with closed questions that were answered by managers of micro and small companies seeking to identify their difficulties in raising credit in financial institutions. Also participating in the survey were the financial institutions of the municipality, where managers answered questions about the difficulties of financial institutions in the municipality of Pato Branco - PR in providing credit to small businesses and what criteria used by financial institutions for credit approval for micro and small businesses. As a conclusion to this study, it can be observed that both micro and small companies encounter several difficulties in raising funds for working capital and investment, both to develop or increase their activities, and the greatest difficulty is due to lack of financial planning of these companies, lack of financial control, incomplete documentation and non-compliant registration. To alleviate these difficulties, companies end up borrowing from third parties or other institutions by paying high interest rates on these loans, taking a liquidity risk that could compromise the company's financial health. Just as companies find it difficult to raise funds from financial institutions, financial institutions also have difficulties in providing credit to entrepreneurs.
