Resumo: Some species of the genus Piper (Piperaceae) are commercialized due to the pharmacological potential their its essential oil (OE). However, species from this genus are easily confused by their morphological similarities. Thus, the objective of this work was to carry out a comparative anatomical analysis of the leaves and the chemical composition of the OE, to support species differentiation. For the anatomical analysis, usual histochemical techniques were used, while the OE characterization was performed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. Based on the chemical analysis, it is possible to state that there are differences among the major compounds in each analyzed species, occasioning different chemical profiles and increasing the possibilities of their use in the pharmaceutical industry. Also, some.
