Resumo: People management has been a fundamental tool for organizations, as it enables the orientation and alignment of human capital to the goals common to all. Seeking to improve management techniques, organizations have invested in new forms of recognition aiming at greater congruence of values of the organization and of its collaborators. In this way the meritocracy has been included in the management of the organizations, aiming at instituting new tools of recognition to the collaborators. In the current scenario, cooperativism has gained space, and credit cooperatives are in increasing development, which has required them to develop a more strategic and managerial stance. Thus, the present case study is devoted to analyzing the use of the meritocratic management model in a credit cooperative. For the development of this is a case study exploratory, which was developed through qualitative and bibliographic research, based on a study developed by the author in a specialization by PUC PR. Through this, it is possible to understand the values of cooperativism in the conception of meritocracy, besides identifying the advantages and disadvantages of using meritocracy in a credit cooperative as well as evaluating the possibility of meritocracy in the credit cooperative. Given that after analyzing the bibliographies and comparative, it can be observed that at present it is not feasible the application of such management in the credit cooperative, because it exists. From this perspective, this study is of fundamental importance for the development of new knowledge, divergence of the principles of the organization with those of management, besides the need for investments, and adjustments, as well as the creation of a specific model for this entity. the results of this study may contribute as a stimulus to other organizations.
