Fertilizers are responsible for increasing productivity in agriculture worldwide. The application of organomineral fertilizers promotes the combination of mineral nutrients with organic compounds, providing higher concentrations of nutrients to the soil. Although there are many benefits, the physical characteristics of fertilizers such as granulometry and consistency favor the formation of dust. The sieving of the mineral promotes the removal of approximately 1.5% of dust in relation to the production of organomineral fertilizer, this percentage of process loss is called "varredura" and is sold at a lower price in the market. Seeking to decrease the percentage of fines that become varredura, the application of an antidusting additive was found as a solution. The fastdrying binder causes aggregation of the fines particles to the granule, decreasing the amount of dust in the product. Laboratory tests were performed with five suppliers and two dosages, the application occurred in the finished product and in the minerals, both with 5% fines content. The application in the finished product generated agglomeration and reactions, in the minerals a fines reduction efficiency of 78% was obtained. A pilot scale was installed in one production line, and there was a 7% reduction of noncompliance of finished product in relation to the other lines. Another gain was the reduction of process time due to the elimination of the sieving stage. However, because it was less sophisticated, there was overdosage of the additive, due to the difficulty in regulating manual valves and clogging of the piping. Thus, the industrial expansion was projected with investment in control and measurement devices. As a justification of the project, the return on investment time calculation was performed, and the investment value was compared with the loss of profitability with the scanning sales. According to the estimate the investment is paid back in 7 months, besides the fact of increasing productivity in all production lines. |
