Resumo: Public lighting is essential for modern society during the night, as it provides fundamental aspects for the urban context, such as visibility, safety and comfort. However, in Brazil, this sector, in short, does not receive due attention. This paper presents the development of a multicriterial methodology to evaluate the replacement of lamps in Brazilian public lighting, aiming at an assertive choice of the light source and, consequently, leads to greater efficiency in this Brazilian sector. For such, the proposed method correlates several criteria through two multicriteria methodologies ratified in the world literature: AHP and TOPSIS. Decision making is based on quantitative and qualitative factors, namely: Adequacy to the environment, technical adequacy, amenities and technical specifications. The decision maker actively participates throughout the judgment process, thus providing subjectivity in the results. Finally, from acceptance tests with extreme cases, the coherence, cohesion and agreement of the developed method is confirmed.
