Resumo: This work aimed to make teachers aware of the importance of drawing in the development of children as a form of expression and what it carries in their world of feelings and emotions. Because drawing is an important form of expressive language and essential for the child's development, exerting a strong influence on the child's emotional development process, as the child's graphic productions may come loaded with different feelings, such as: fear, anguish, insecurity and joy. It is with this awareness in mind that this study aims to be able to shed light on this theme that is so relevant for understanding drawing as an instrument of subjective expression of the child. For that, the text was organized in four moments: first, it brings some considerations in relation to the history of the drawing. In the second moment, it deals with the relevance of drawing to child development, how through it the child can create and represent his internal universe. In the third moment, it addresses the phases of the development of the drawing, specifying the characteristics of each one of them, relating them to the child's development. In the fourth and last moment, he talks about the teacher's eyes when interpreting children's drawings, emphasizing the importance and need for the teacher to always be attentive to his students' productions, in order to be able to follow and understand what the child wants to convey in his drawing . What will be presented in this study is the result of bibliographic research and was mainly based on the studies of the authors Nicole Bédard and Viktor Lowenfeld, which concludes the importance of each step of child drawing in the construction of child development, and that through colors, strokes and verbalizations about the drawing, it is possible to obtain significant information about the historicalcultural context in which the child lives and how it means it.
