The management and management of solid waste in higher education institutions is extremely important, due to the amount and diversity of waste generated, as well as because they are opinion makers. Thus, the present work aimed to analyze the solid waste management at the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR), Câmpus Campo Mourão. The scope of this work was considered recyclable, organic and tailings waste. The data related to the activities, sources of generation, types and classes of solid waste, were obtained from surveys carried out by members of the Sustainable Logistics Plan Commissions (PLS-CM) and the Solidary Selective Collection Commission (CSS-CM) . The generation of the following types of waste was identified: recyclable (plastic, paper, cardboard, carton packaging, metal and glass); organic (leftovers from food preparation and pruning and sweeping); and tailings. Based on the management analysis, positive aspects were identified, including the practice of Solidary Selective Collection and the composting of organic waste. Campus collectors have textual identification, as well as bags in different colors to facilitate the collection and temporary storage of recyclables, organics and tailings. Among the proposed improvement opportunities, a third collector for “Organic” waste is inserted, at first in a pilot way; implement collectors for “Non-recyclable” in classrooms; replace plastic cups and straws in the university restaurant cafeteria with paper / cardboard and / or compostable materials; encourage the participation of civil servants, students and contractors in events with the theme of solid waste; as well as intensifying the development of environmental awareness actions with the university community. |
