In 2018 in Campo Mourão city, state of Paraná, only 4.6% of the total urban solid waste collected by the responsible outsourced company was carried out through selective collection. In view of the situation regarding the collection of recyclables, the Associação Agenda 21 Local created the Projeto Destino Certo in 2020, to sensitize businesspeople to properly dispose of their recyclable waste and to value the scavengers organized in recycling cooperatives. Based on the Destino Certo project, this study aimed to evaluate the evolution of quantitative data related to the collection of recyclable solid waste as a result of the dissemination and implementation of an environmental education action. The environmental education action carried out focused on providing guidance and training for the proper separation and disposal of recyclables, which contacted 100 responsible for enterprises, in the period from October to December 2020 and invited them to dispose of the recyclables generated by the collection carried out by the Cooperativa Resíduo Solidário, 65% of those responsible for the enterprises adhered to it. The recyclables collected from participating projects over the last three months of 2020 resulted in a total of 19,370 kg. Comparing the months of October, November and December 2019 with 2020, the results obtained indicate that Projeto Destino Certo contributed with 51.57% of the increase in the amount of recyclables sold by Cooperativa Resíduo Solidário. This increase in recyclables sold directly reflected in the revenue obtained by the cooperative, comparing these final three months of 2019 with 2020, there was an increase of 107.64%, 167.11% and 120.40% in the revenue obtained, respectively, directly impacting the income of the members. It is concluded that those responsible for the Campo Mourão enterprises have a lack of information regarding the correct segregation and destination of recyclable solid waste, which can be met through environmental education, giving a wide margin to improve the performance of selective collection in Campo Mourão. |
