Resumo: Shafts are vital components in mechanical engineering and are used in machines to support other elements and to transmit power. To avoid fatigue failure in such components without the need to redo calculations and inaccurate visual interpolations, this work intends to develop a program that, together with design software, will use reliable criteria to diagnose a circular, solid, ductile and carbon steel shaft project progress. Thus, it will be possible to identify, still in the design phase, a possible premature fracture failure due to bending and / or torsional loads. After that, a particular case will be studied, in which a shaft is going to be analyzed following the proposed procedure. Besides the specific conclusions that the proposal will offer, it will be possible to see that the developed program will make it practical to simulate possible changes in geometry and / or choice of material on the analyzed shaft, making it easier to make decisions and decreasing accidental design errors involved in the calculation process.
