Resumo: Concrete is subject to aggressive agents that can lead to a reduction in strength and durability. One of them is the attack by sulfates, which leads to the expansion of the concrete, causing cracks, loss of mass and stiffness. From that, this work aims to verify the viability of the spectrophotometry method by measuring the absorbance to determine the sulfate content in cementitious matrices. As a parameter for this research, it was used the APHA Méthod 4500-SO42- method and the calomel electrode, to validate the method object of this study. In the experiment, two types of samples were used: the first, conventional, molded with CP V ARI, sand and an water / cement content of 0.5; the second, of reactive powders, molded with CP V ARI, sand, silica fume, quartz powder, additive and a water / cement content of 0.22. The wavelength that proved to be satisfactory for measuring the sulfate content by spectrophotometry was 400 nm. From a comparison between these methods, it was observed that the higher the absorbance, the higher the sulfate content and the greater the potential difference of the values. Therefore, the use of spectrophotometry in the determination of sulfate contents in cementitious matrices has been shown to be feasible.
