Organizations are increasingly looking for ways and tools that are solutions for better environmental performance, in view of the requirement established by the various business markets. In this context, the ISO 14001 standard offers in its structure requirements that guide the implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS), which can be adopted by any type of industrial segment. One of the bases for implementing an EMS is the identification of environmental aspects, with a focus on controlling them to avoid the occurrence of a negative environmental impact. Therefore, the objective of this work was to survey and classify the environmental aspects and impacts of the industrial maintenance sector in an aluminum smelting industry located in the Southwest of Paraná. For this, technical visits were carried out in the area defined in the scope of the study, mapping all activities performed in the process, for subsequent identification of environmental aspects. Then, the FMEA – Failure Mode and Effects Analysis methodology was applied to assess and classify environmental aspects. The result of applying the methodology defined the environmental priority number (EPN) for each aspect, identifying which actions in priority scale must be applied by the organization to avoid the occurrence of negative environmental impacts. Thus, it was possible to detect that the generation of solid waste and the excessive consumption of oils and greases characterized the main environmental aspects of most activities carried out in the process. And as actions to mitigate and prevent the occurrence of negative environmental impacts, it was suggested that the organization, starting from its Senior Management, adopt a more active posture in relation to employee awareness, reduction of waste generation, correct disposal, proper handling of oils and greases and continuous improvement of your EMS, aiming at future certification in the ISO 14001 standard. |
