The presente work seeks to analyze, through the field of semiotics, how these discourses are constructed, more precisely within the documentary genre. The research is based on Greimasian studies on semiotics, that gave rise to the publication of two books that were widely used in the presente work: Elementos de Análise do Discurso, de Fiorin(1989) e Teoria Semiótica do Texto, de Barros(1997). Besides, in addition to semiotics, this study is based on the discussions developed by Levitsky and Ziblatt (2018); Bobbio (2000), to support the concept of democracy, and also by Nichols(2005) and Gutfreind (2006) to illuminate the discussions about the documentary genre. The research seeks, through a qualitative analysis of a descriptive and documentary character, to expose the success of the movie in relating different discursive elements in favor of its narrative. The object of the study, “Democracia em Vertigem”, a Netflix documentary, gained international notoriety after being nominated for an Oscar in 2019, therefore, this work aims to reflect on how the semiotic elements of the movie corroborate the meaning effects of its narrative. Furthermore, it is expected to contribute to the studies of syncretic semiotics. |
