Resumo: The present work proposes to test the viability of the Network Simulator (NS-2) as a tool for the simulation of industrial networks. NS-2 is an open source network simulator widely used in academia, however, very little is found in the literature regarding its use in the simulation of Industrial networks, specifically Profibus. Researches were carried out to know the NS-2 functionalities for simulating conventional networks that could be used in the simulation of industrial networks without the need to create or change the source codes written in C++. Simulations were performed using simple topologies to observe the tool's behavior and compare the results with expected values. To perform the simulations, scripts were developed in TCL language, which made it possible to build the topologies and configuration of network parameters, as well as the representation of the communication protocol, traffic, data packet size and queue behavior. The visualization and comparison of results are represented in tables and graphs.
