This work has begun with the main objective of exploring an open-source software, especially those created for fluid dynamics analyzes. With that in mind, an investigation as conducted through some references to identify problems that could be studied with this tool. After this investigation the theme of this dissertation was found, aerodynamics hysteresis. The study of the hysteresis, if properly conducted can show why does an airplane can lose lift at some high angles of pitch. For this study the aerodynamic profile chosen was NACA 0018, which is a simple profile who also has a wide range of experimental and simulation data. The software chosen was OpenFOAM, a tool that has an extensive range of features to solve a large amount of problems in most areas of engineering, this tool makes an analyses of codes and folders to solve his problems. Throughout this dissertation was demonstrated how FOAM can be used to perform CFD calculations and also an analysis of the efficiency of the simulations to predict the detachment of the fluid at high angles of attack was made by the comparison of experimental and simulations values of pressure, lift and drag coefficients. |
