Resumo: As measures of social distancing adopted to minimize the transmission of the new coronavirus can cause consequences related to the decrease of the levels of physical activity and increase of the sedentary behavior of the population. The choice to remain active, even during a condition of pandemic and social detachment, can be influenced by self-determination and commitment to exercise and physical activity. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the association of self-determination and commitment to exercise on physical activity practiced in periods of social distance in regular and non-regular clients of a gym in Campo Largo – PR. Participating in the study were clients enrolled in the gym, active or on leave, until the moment of interruption of activities due to the pandemic, and who agreed to participate in the research (n = 152). To measure the questions regarding the participants ‘personal information, about the practice of previous and current physical activity, investigate the guests’ routine during social distance, as well as about possible changes in food, no body weight and alcohol consumption during this period, a questionnaire was developed for this condition. Also included in the main instrument were the Questionnaire for Regulation of Behavior in Physical Exercise (BREQ-3) and the Scale of Commitment to Exercise (ECE), to assess self-determination and commitment to exercise, respectively. The association between self-determination and commitment to physical activity was tested using the Chi-Square test for proportions. Statistical analyzes were performed in the PSPP program, with a 5% significance level. The results induced that there was no association between the level of self-determination and commitment to exercise and the practice of physical activity during social distance, as well as differences between those who practiced and did not practice during that period.
