The research aimed to develop an equation based on inferential multiple regression analysis to describe the multiple impact strength of ceramic tiles at different ages subjected to stresses simulating hailstorms. The work established correlations between the ages of the tiles and their physical aspects (absorption, flexural strength, and saturated mass), compared the experimental procedure of the FM 4473 standard (ANSI, 2011), developed an ice ball launching equipment with up to 4,5 cm in diameter and presented an equation that describes the phenomenon. Measurements of absorption, flexural strength and saturated mass of the tiles were performed. The experimental methodology proposed by the FM 4473 standard (ANSI, 2011) was partially used because it was not possible to analyze the damage at three levels. It was possible to conclude through the statistical analysis that age does not significantly influence the impact strength, but the physical characteristics of the breaking load tiles to flexion, absorption, and saturated mass. Statistical analysis obtained 78% explanatory power of the phenomenon. The results showed that the physical characteristics of flexural strength, absorption and saturated mass can cause a 45% reduction in impact strength. Demonstrating that compliance with technical regulations and quality in the manufacture of ceramic tiles are essential for resistance to hail. |
