Resumo: This paper aims to analyze the representation and construction of female black characters as well as the social, historical and cultural conditions regarding the identity of the black people which constitute the community of Água Negra in the book Torto Arado (2019) by Itamar Vieira Junior. For this, we consider works about the identity of black people in the diaspora proposed by Stuart Hall (1996; 2003), as well as the relations of oppression from the studies of Paulo Freire (1968). In order to discuss the double colonization of black women and their profile in society, we have based this research in the studies of Lélia Gonzalez (1982), Frantz Fanon (1952), Maria Odila Dias (2012), Albert Memmi (2007). Thus, we aim at highlighting the fundamental role that those black women have in maintaining their identity in a resilient and resistant way through narrative.
