Hydroelectric power in Brazil has always been predominant among the other sources of energy generation; moreover, recently the demand for hydroelectric power plants has increased due to their smaller size and lower impact. Dams are one of the main structures present in almost all hydroelectric power plants, and they can be made by several materials, including composite structures. Taking into account the dam's profiles, they should be chosen according to the characteristics of the location and the project, and the spillways can also be attached to the dam. Bearing these concepts in mind, it is worth mentioning that the main objective of this study is to perform a structural analysis of the concrete dam of the Alceu Viganó Hydroelectric Generating Station (HGS) observing the acting forces and analyzing the load's action on the dam, the displacements caused and the stresses generated. Therefore, the acting loads were defined and calculated both according to the presented bibliography, and to the initial project developed for the dam. The information of load combinations, water level height, and dam dimensions were required to perform the analyses through the SAP2000 software. the reactions of the structure, strains and stresses caused for each of the load combinations were obtained, thus obtaining the normal cases, limit load case 1 and 2 as the combinations that cause greater efforts in the structure. |
