Resumo: Buildings consume natural resources on a large scale throughout their useful life. It is responsible for about 50% of total energy consumption in Brazil. The adoption of practices aimed at energy efficiency in buildings besides contributing to mitigate environmental impacts helps in the thermal comfort, health and well-being of users. This work aimed to classify a building in terms of its energy efficiency, in addition to proposing and analyzing the economic viability of strategies that improve its energy performance. The focus building of the study was the Block M of the UTFPR Pato Branco campus. The energy efficiency evaluation was based on the INI-C simulation method. The building in its real model obtained 49.9% of hours occupied in thermal comfort, being necessary to implement air conditioning equipment. Thus, the building obtained a level "B" rating. Next, strategies were applied to improve this classification, such as rock wool in the roof, ETICS system in external walls, green roof and reflective paint in the building’s roof. With the strategies of green roof and reflective painting, the building reached the level "A". The analysis of the economic viability of the implantation of these strategies was based on the multi-index extended methodology and the Monte Carlo simulation. Based on the analysis, it was concluded that the green roof strategy is not economically viable and the reflective painting strategy has a low return and high risk.
