Resumo: The use of cosmetics is part of women's lives, especially makeup articles that help in beautification, vanity, well-being and self-esteem. The continuous use of these products can generate health risks, causing allergies or even more severe diseases such as cancer, which can lead to death. This can occur due to the presence of some metals in the composition of these products, these elements accumulate mainly in the skin, and the human body ends up not being able to eliminate it completely because its absorbed percentage is greater than the body is able to excrete. Given this context, the present work presents a descriptive bibliographic survey of works published in the period from 2014 to 2021 involving the detection of metals in different types of cosmetic samples and highlighting the limits allowed by regulatory bodies in Brazil. There were several metals found in the samples such as Ba, Zn, Cu, Fe, Ti, Ar, Cd, Ni, Al, Si, Ca and K, highlighting the presence of Cd, Pb, Cr and Ni that are extremely harmful to health. human. It was also observed that the concentrations of these metals in some cases were above what the legislation that regulates these products provides. A bibliographic review of metal detection in cosmetics leads to realize the importance of inspection by competent bodies, on the legislation to be followed.
