One of the biggest problems in musical learning is the lack of feedback when the student is practicing at home. Another problem is the instrument tuning. The instrument should always be tuned for good practice. The Musical Learning Support System will try to mitigate the problem. It was developed as a smartphone application for Android operating systems, which recognizes pitch, changes the music rhythm, and extracts music information. This app uses the Superpowered and TarsosDSP. Superpowered is a free high-performance development platform for audio processing. Tarsos DSP is a digital signal processing library that includes a pitch detecting algorithm. The program is separated into three modules: pitch recognition, music rhythm changer, and musical information extraction. The pitch is one of the most important skills of a musician. By listening to an audio input, it is possible to determine the fundamental frequency of the sound. The software recognizes the fundamental frequency by using the Yin algorithm which shows the audio frequency mapping. The music rhythm changer helps students to comprehend the music. It is a very important feature since there is a lot of complex and high-speed music. Normally, changing the music length can result in distortions in the frequency of the signal. To change the music rhythm without changing the pitch is necessary to cut small fragments and repeat them inside the music. This procedure assures that the frequency of the music will not change. To implement these features, the app uses the Superpowered and Tarsos DSP. Both are free to use. The app is available to Android system using the default audio input and can be used to tune instruments and help in musical education. |
