Lightning strikes are unpredictable events that have a high destructive effect. A lightning strike can occur between clouds, or between cloud and land. Hitting the earth with an atmospheric discharge can cause damage, thus generating losses of human life, cultural heritage, public and economic service. To mitigate the effects of lightning strikes on structures, methods have been developed to assess the need for protection against these events and the measures used to carry out this protection.In Brazil, these measures and methods are standardized by ABNT NBR 5419, which in 2015 underwent a major update in its base text (currently in force) presenting new concepts for protection and a new method to determine the need or not to perform the procedure. protection, called risk management. The need or not to carry out the protection has become more complete, equaling international standards, thus bringing more variables to be analyzed. This paper aims to present the main updates between the current version of NBR 5419 and its previous version (2005), as well as to present a theoretical study of the process carried out to develop risk management.Concluding the work, a tool is developed using VBA applied to the Excel software, to facilitate risk management, and so with a case study using the developed spreadsheet, the importance of the new method of assessing the need or not to develop is reinforced. a lightning protection system. |
